4 Reasons to Visit Your Foot Doctor

With the complex array of bones, muscles, ligaments, and other tissues that comprise your feet, and ankles it’s more than likely you will suffer a foot or ankle injury or develop a disease that requires a visit to your foot doctor for the proper diagnosis and treatment.

There are many reasons you should consult with your podiatrist, including:

1)   For foot and ankle pain and discomfort—If you have new or ongoing pain and discomfort in your foot or ankle that doesn’t improve with rest.

2)   When you notice skin and toenail texture and color changes—Skin and toenail discoloration and texture changes can indicate a fungal toenail infection or perhaps even skin cancer. Since skin cancer like melanoma can grow, see your podiatrist for the proper diagnosis and treatment.

3)   For advancing toe deformities—Toe deformities such as bunions and hammertoes may not cause pain in the beginning, these conditions are better treated in the early stages, so be sure to make an appointment with your foot doctor for an evaluation.

4)   For wounds that aren’t healing properly—This can be especially problematic for diabetic patients who have peripheral neuropathy. The nerve damage makes it difficult or impossible to feel cuts and scrapes. Unnoticed infections can spread and lead to foot ulcers or even amputation, so see your foot doctor for proper diabetic foot care.
