Let’s Love Our Feet!

Our feet aren’t always on our minds. If we want our feet to stay healthy, we should give them some well-deserved love and attention. In doing so, your walk will improve, and you can avoid pain. In addition to that, you can prevent critical problems that happen as you age.

Treating Your Feet

  • Dry your feet well—when you dry your feet after washing, completely dry them. Give the area between toes extra attention. It is easy for moisture to collect there, and it will attract bacteria and fungus.
  • Clip toenails properly—when you cut your toenails, do not cut down into the skin. Cut your nail in a straight line across, but never so short that it hurts. That will help you avoid ingrown toenails and future pain.
  • Let your toes and toenails breathe—when wearing toenail polish, give your toes chance to breathe. Wait three days between new applications.
  • Stretch—stretching the feet can provide you with relief from pain. If you have tendonitis or plantar fasciitis, it can be especially beneficial.
  • Exfoliate your feet—using a pumice stone will be able to help you remove calluses and dead skin. That keeps your feet smooth and healthy. Diabetic patients should first consult their podiatrist.
  • Moisturization is key—as we age, our feet have thinner skin. That may cause pain and bleeding if it should crack. Using a thick, moisturizing lotion will help keep these issues at bay. Avoid the space between your toes.
