Plans for Winning Against Plantar Fasciitis
Here is a fact: plantar fasciitis is a common form of heel pain that can put you on the sidelines. With your favorite summer sports on the line and even vacation travels, we’re here to help keep your heels healthy. If you think you have this condition, do you know how to respond? Let’s talk about three things you can do to get back in the game.
The Desert Podiatric Medical Specialists meet with patients who share their struggles with this painful form of heel pain. For many people, the pain is most noticeable in the morning after an extended period of rest. They can also experience this sharp, intense pain after sitting for a while.
The plantar fascia supports your arch, and we can often overload it with our activities. The fibrous band of tissue runs from the inside of the heel to our toes. If you have tight calf muscles, flat feet, or a recent history of a boost in intensity while exercising, you could be at risk.
Stretch before you move
Stretching is one of your body’s best defenses against an injury. We often talk about tight muscles and how this condition can increase your risk of injury. Before and after exercise, whether you are walking or running, spend 15 minutes to stretch. Warm up your body to allow for a gradual increase in activity.
Advocate for arch support
While you shop for shoes, keep in the mind how important arch support can be for the health of your feet. If you have flat feet, then you already know the discomfort. Find shoes that provide just enough arch support. If you need additional cushioning, don’t hesitate to add it to your shopping cart. Talk with a podiatrist about custom orthotics, too.
Remember to rest
If you are experiencing pain from plantar fasciitis, remember that rest is best. Take a break from playing sports, wearing shoes without proper support, and even walking without shoes. Care for your feet by allowing them time to rest. Returning too fast to regular activities can slow down the recovery process.
