Fall and Foot Odor
If you think the fall season means you can forget about smelly feet, think again. Trapped sweat is the biggest cause of stinky feet, but it doesn’t go away simply because the weather changes. There are still scenarios that create the inviting space for the bacteria and fungus that cause this condition.
The Desert Podiatric Medical Specialists help patients stay ahead of this unwelcoming scenario. Stinky feet can make you want to stay home. You may be hesitant to visit a place that requires you to take off your shoes. Think of renting shoes at a bowling alley or visiting a friend’s home with a no-shoe policy.
We’ve got you covered if you are wondering what you can do this season to fight back. Start with your shoes, of course. Many of our habits begin with our shoe choice, and then we can dig deeper. Here are three ways to keep your feet smelling great.
Wear the right size shoes
We’re back to shoe choice again. Here’s the problem: If you are wearing shoes that are too tight or small, it’s getting crowded. Between the friction and the tight space, there is now a recipe for way too much moisture. Size up and select shoes that have a roomy toe box.
Keep your feet dry
Rainy days in the fall can feel like the best kind of day. If your feet get wet, beware. Dry your feet and allow your shoes plenty of time to dry. We all have a favorite pair of shoes, but alternating the shoes helps to keep them dry. Don’t forget about sock hygiene, too. Never wear socks back-to-back. Clean, dry socks are your best defense.
Wash your feet
We know this one seems obvious, but many of us are still neglecting our piggies. Wash your feet and your toes. Wash between your toes and dry them, too. Dirty feet are a problem and can become hosts to not-so-great fungus and bacteria. Trim your toenails regularly and reach out to a podiatrist as soon as possible if you have concerns.
