Step Into Fall the Right Way
When fall comes, you may think of pumpkins, hot drinks, and fun outside. However, putting your flip-flops away for a few months means that you have new issues with your feet that you will need to address. Thankfully, there are many ways that you can keep your feet safe while still enjoying the pumpkin patch.
Keeping Your Feet Safe
- Keep your feet dry—moisture in your shoes and socks leads to fungus and bacteria. Another reason that you need to keep feet dry is they get colder the damper they get.
- Use the proper footwear-in the fall boots are a popular footwear choice. If you opt to do this, you will need boots that fit correctly and are not constrictive around feet or legs. A fit that is too tight decreases blood flow which can cause issues to arise. It can also cause a flare-up of Raynaud’s.
- Wash your feet daily—keeping your feet clean is essential to avoiding fungus and other issues. You need to ensure that your feet are thoroughly dry and then change into your socks.
- Always use freshly washed socks—change socks daily to avoid fungal issues and infection. If your feet sweat heavily, you may need to do this more than once a day.
- Moisturize daily—this will keep your skin from drying out and causing problems with cracking or bleeding. Cracking and bleeding are two serious issues that you want to avoid if you have diabetes because it can lead to further problems if you do not keep on top of it.
When the winter months begin to come in, taking care of your feet is vital to ensuring your health. Give your feet the help they deserve, and you can have fun all winter long!
