Always Wear Socks with Shoes

While it might be fashionable to wear shoes without socks, it is not a good practice in terms of foot health for several reasons. Blisters, foot odor, and fungus, none of which are fashionable, are often the results of not wearing socks. Socks are designed to keep your feet safe from uncomfortable friction, infections, and bacteria. Without socks, perspiration is absorbed by your footwear, setting up the perfect environment for bacteria and fungi to thrive, and it’s your feet that pay the price.

What You Should Do to Protect Your Feet

Clean and Dry Feet–thoroughly wash and dry your feet daily, paying extra attention to the areas between and around the toes before you slip into a pair of clean socks.

Powders and Sprays--for your footwear. By using an anti-fungal spray or powder, you help ensure that your feet stay safe from bad odors, fungal infections and other problems.

Switch Your Shoes–rotating your shoes helps to keep your shoes from getting too damp and smelly. If you wear the same shoes every day, chances are good that they are a breeding ground for bacteria. Particularly so if you are not airing out your shoes.

Clean and Air Your Shoes--this last tip is important because just like your clothes need cleaning, your shoes do too. Clean and dry footwear will also be devoid of bacteria and dangerous fungi that damage feet and toenails.
