Give Your Feet Care This Summer

Summer is a popular time for people to get in shape and try new workouts. While that is a positive thing to strive for, people don’t understand that many injuries can occur due to the strain. Because of this, you need to be aware of what can happen if you push yourself too hard this summer.

Common Summertime Injuries

  • Plantar fasciitis–when you experience heel pain it may be plantar fasciitis. When your plantar fascia becomes inflamed, you will feel a great deal of pain. This condition is common for members of the military, runners, and other athletes. It will occur in the summer because of improper footwear and a rise in physical activity. If you have a stabbing or sharp pain in the bottom of your foot that occurs after standing, you will need to make an appointment to see your podiatrist immediately.
  • Shin splints–shin splints occur when you overuse your feet and ankles with physical activity. It happens when you have an inflammation of your bone tissue, muscles, and tendons. It can occur when you begin exercising more frequently, for more extended periods, or if you are pushing your body more than usual. It often happens in runners. To understand if you are experiencing this condition, you should check to see if you feel pain and notice swelling on your tibia.
  • Ankle sprains–ankle sprains can occur at any time in any place. Most commonly occurring in runners and professional athletes, it is a condition that causes pain, discoloration, bruising, and stiffness, along with swelling and tenderness in your ankle. If you find that you have suffered a sprain, a podiatrist can help you heal more quickly.
