Raynaud’s Disease: Signs and Symptoms

Raynaud’s disease is an affliction that causes certain areas of your body to feel cold or numb. When you have this disease, it causes the smaller arteries that are in charge of supplying blood to become narrower. When this happens, blood flow is limited, which causes issues throughout the body. This is a severe condition that creates other problems.

Three signs you may have Raynaud’s Disease:

  1. Feeling cold—in particular, in your fingers or your toes
  2. A change in skin color—if you see your skin becoming lighter and leaning toward a white or blue tone, you should seek help right away.
  3. Numbness or tingly sensation—if you notice a pain that stings when you warm up, or a tingly ”pins and needles” feeling, or lingering numbness, these are other primary symptoms that you are suffering from this syndrome.

If you have these symptoms and think that you may have Raynaud’s, please seek help right away. An experienced podiatrist will accurately diagnose. If you have lupus, you will be at a higher risk for Raynaud’s. There may be additional tests to check for other autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
