Is It Too Soon to Call the Podiatrist?

Do you ever wonder if you are bothering your podiatrist? We hope this thought quickly leaves your mind. We are here to help with all foot-and-ankle problems that are causing you discomfort. We are waiting for your call because we know how much foot pain can interrupt your life. If you are wondering if it’s too soon to call the podiatrist, the answer is “no.” Please call.

The Desert Podiatric Medical Specialists can help with everything from ingrown toenails to Achilles tendonitis. What one person may consider a minor problem may be more uncomfortable for someone else. We encourage patients to call us with any concerns, especially pain. Unfortunately, delaying treatment can lead to prolonged symptoms or future problems.

Some of the common reasons for the delay include trying to figure it out at home, not quite understanding the role of a podiatrist, or hoping the pain will go away. With each of these obstacles to reaching out for care, there is a risk of your foot condition getting worse. Here are three examples:

Ingrown toenails

An ingrown toenail can’t be that bad, right? Or can it be a nuisance? Trust us. You don’t want to ignore this condition, which occurs when the toenail begins to grow into the side of the surrounding skin. It may be a bit uncomfortable in the beginning, but it can later develop into an infected toenail.

Step 1: If your toenail looks like it’s growing the wrong way, give us a call.

Ankle sprains

We’re talking about ankle sprains again because they are among the most common condition that people underestimate. They assume the pain will go away without getting a proper assessment. Even if the pain subsides, there is a chance that your sprain has not fully healed. There is a risk of re-injury.

Step 1: Rest, apply ice, add compression, and elevate your ankle. Then, call us.

Hammertoes

Do you know what happens with progressive toe deformities like hammertoes and bunions? The deformity worsens over time. Then, one hammertoe can affect the surrounding toes. More importantly, these deformities can become painful as they rub against the inside of your shoe.

Step 1: Schedule an appointment to see the stage of your deformity and the next steps.
