Walking Feet
Everyone has their favorite spot to walk — even in our area. When the mornings are cool or the nights feel great, taking a walk can reduce stress and bring along other benefits, too. Walking is an underrated form of exercise. Are you missing out?
This fall, The Desert Podiatric Medical Specialists want to encourage you to take more steps. Find the time of day that works best for your schedule and get moving. Walking can be slow, or you can kick things up a notch with a brisk pace. Either way, you are winning in the exercise department. You are increasing your physical activity, and you are doing it in a low-impact way.
If you are wondering how you can start a new walking schedule, keep reading. We know that regular exercise helps to increase blood flow, help maintain a healthy weight, and strengthen muscles and bones.
Here are three ways to walk more this fall:
Have a walking buddy
Positive peer pressure is a beautiful thing. When you have someone encouraging your healthy habits or activities, you have a great friend. Here is the benefit of a walking buddy: you have someone for accountability — and safety. While walking, it’s helpful to have a buddy in case you need help.
Address foot pain
Walking may not be at the pace of running, but you will still feel foot pain. Please don’t push aside your discomfort because you consider walking to be less impactful. Schedule an appointment with your podiatrist to see what’s causing the pain. We’re here to help you get back on your favorite track or trail.
Wear walking shoes
Every activity has a different type of shoe requirement. Think about your shoe selection before you begin walking. Talk with a shoe specialist about recommendations and trusted brands. More importantly, talk with your podiatrist. Could orthotics help your steps? Have you discussed ankle braces?
