How to Take Care of Your Orthotics

Custom-fitted orthotics are more than simple shoe inserts. By creating them specifically for your unique foot and foot health needs, your podiatrist knows that custom orthotics will help with foot biomechanics as well as many foot problems.

Custom-molded orthotics will comfort and support your feet. As such, they are an investment in your health, and it will pay off to take good care of that investment!

Caring for Your Orthotics

Taking care of your orthotics is easy! Here are our best tips:

  • Clean your orthotics often by washing them with a clean cloth and mild soap. After rinsing, let them dry completely before inserting them back in your shoes. Never use a chemical solvent for cleaning, or dry orthotics in the sun or in a clothes dryer. Avoid washing orthotics made of leather.
  • Let your orthotics air each night by removing them from your shoes.
  • Do not use a clothes dishwasher or washing machine to clean your orthotics.
  • Don’t expose orthotics to excessive heat or direct sun.

You may need to have your orthotics reassessed if you suffer an injury, or if you experience a significant weight loss or gain.

With good care, your orthotics will take good care of your feet for years to come!

If you suffer from arch pain, bunions, chronic ankle sprains, flat feet, heel pain, low back pain, or plantar fasciitis, please contact us to learn how custom-fitted orthotics can help!
