Myths During Men’s Health Month

It’s June! Now is a time when we celebrate graduations and Father’s Day. June is also Men’s Health Month; Men’s Health Week is June 13-19. We want to raise awareness about the importance of health for men and boys. Do you have suggestions?

The Desert Podiatric Medical Specialists demystify three myths about men’s health that can have dangerous consequences. Our facts focus on these three words: prevention, pain, and podiatry.

Myth #1: There is nothing you can do to prevent foot problems.

Now you know we don’t believe this lie. As podiatrists, we value prevention and treatment. There are many foot conditions that are preventable, and it starts with having a great foundation. The first step is taking care of your feet at home.

● Wash, dry, and moisturize your feet every day

● Wear properly fitting shoes

● Know your history; toe deformities may be inherited

Myth #2: Pain is a part of aging

We can often think that with aging comes pain. If there is one thing that is true: pain is not OK. When we have pain, we should recognize that our body is trying to tell us something. No matter your age, don’t dismiss your pain.

● If you feel pain, stop and rest

● It’s never too early to address pain; call your doctor promptly

● Look at your shoes as a starting culprit

Myth #3: Podiatrists only help people with critical foot injuries

A podiatrist is a foot and ankle specialist. We are the experts in understanding the anatomy of this area of the body. While we may resolve problems with surgery, we are or should be a regular part of your health care visits. From ingrown toenails to smelly feet, we treat foot and ankle conditions of all sorts.

● If you have a foot problem, call the experts

● Don’t wait until you are in severe pain to reach out

● Need help with shoe selection? Ask us.

This Men’s Health Month, stop falling for the myths about your health. There are many ways to learn the truth and begin a new path for your health. Remember that prevention is possible, pain is not a part of aging, and podiatrists can help everyone.
