5 Signs It’s Time for New Orthotics
Orthotics are medically prescribed items worn inside shoes to correct structural foot disorders that cause limited mobility. Foot orthotics have significant benefits for individuals with different foot conditions.
While fresh new orthotics can alleviate a wide range of foot problems, keeping old orthotics might have a number of negative consequences that you may be unaware of. A few things ultimately determine the need to replace orthotics.
The following signs may suggest that it is time to repair or replace your orthotics:
- The orthotic top is falling apart.
The top of orthotics may wear down after some significant use. This may be both unattractive and unpleasant. Instead of buying new orthotics, you also have the option to repair your existing orthotics to make them last a bit longer.
- Orthotics are not relieving you of your back and/or lower limb pain.
One of the most common causes of foot discomfort from orthotics is an improper structure or fit. When you have an inadequately fitted shoe orthotic, it is usually because you selected an off-the-shelf option that does not correctly suit your individual foot shape. A store-bought solution cannot deliver the level of detail that a prescribed solution can and therefore, you should explore the option of a customized orthotic. You also need to see whether you need to fix or refurbish your orthotic inserts.
- Orthotic is wearing out or changing shape.
Orthotics can flatten out over time due to wear and tear, which can cause problems if not examined on a regular basis.
- Outdated orthotics.
Most orthotics last up to five years and are dependent on your lifestyle, frequency of movement and the quality of the orthotic. Hard plastic inserts can be replaced every three to five years, while other inserts must be changed annually.
- Damaged orthotic.
If your discomfort has returned, it is clear that your orthotics are no longer providing you the support your feet require. Standing or jogging with orthotics should not cause discomfort, and if other foot conditions arise due to the orthotics, it is a clear indication that the orthotics are worn out.
Regularly inspect your orthotics before starting your day. Check to see if any of these symptoms apply to your orthotics. If they do, it’s time to consult a podiatrist. Foot health is pivotal if you want to maintain a healthy and mobile lifestyle.
